The Potential of Alnylam

For this post I want to take a look into another stock in my portfolio. This one is Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (ALNY). This is one of my favorite stocks and it offers a lot of potential. Potential that can be dangerous as far as risk and return. First, a little summary of what they do straight from Google Finance:

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Alnylam) is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel therapeutics based on ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi). The Company is building a pipeline of RNAi therapeutics. Alnylam’s lead program is in Phase I clinical trials for the treatment of human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. In pre-clinical development programs, the Company is working on an RNAi therapeutic for the treatment of another respiratory infection, influenza, with Novartis Pharma AG (Novartis). Independently, Alnylam is also developing an RNAi therapeutic for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. The Company has additional pre-clinical discovery programs for RNAi therapeutics for the treatment of a range of diseases, including Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease (HD), neuropathic pain, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), Ebola virus infection and cystic fibrosis (CF).

Through my own study of RNAi I found it to be really interesting and intriguing. We are in need of big scientific breakthroughs and I like this area of science.

I owned it at $21 and $16 and have been pleased as of late. However, I am not clear on how well they're progressing and if investors will get bored of waiting and leave or be excited and pump money in. On a positive note, they have many strategic partnerships, though they lost Merck who went ahead and bought a competitor of Alnylam. That may sound bad, but I think it will allow for Alnylam to look into partnerships with another major company and/or be bought by a major pharma company. I don't know what is going to happen, obviously, but I am suggesting you to do a little research and see if you can find a nice little connection to the stock and yourself. This may have risen to high to fast and may have to come down a little before it proceeds up again.

Again, please let me know if you invest in this, if you have your own picks, and please share any thoughts you may have. Thank you and enjoy!

By the way, if you are interested in skateboards, Silhouette Boards has come out with there first board. Cost is $40 and I have some for you. They look really tight. Visit them at www.myspace.com/silhouetteboards, but let me know...I got the hook up!
